The Fan Weed (Callophyllis laciniata) is commonly found along the rocky coastlines of Scotland. It is characterised by its delicate, fan-shaped fronds that can range in colour from deep red to purple to pink. Fan weed seaweed can be found in the intertidal and subtidal zones and are important to coastal marine ecosystems, providing habitat and food for a variety of marine organisms, including small invertebrates and fish. The presence of fan weed seaweed also indicates healthy, unpolluted waters, as it is sensitive to changes in water quality.
