The woodland inkcap (Coprinellus silvaticus) is a delicate mushroom commonly found in the deciduous and mixed forests of Scotland. This small, fragile fungus has a bell-shaped cap that starts off white and gradually turns grey, often dissolving into an inky black liquid as it matures, a process known as deliquescence. Woodland inkcaps typically grow on decaying leaf litter, twigs, and other organic matter. Their presence is indicative of a healthy, thriving woodland environment.
